VCH was iniated with the goal to provide stable housing, sanitation, food, clothing, school supplies, additional lessons and extra-curricular activities for underprivileged children, including orphans, from rural Bangalore through the VEDIKE Children's Home. Over the past few years the Government and NGOs (including Vedike/GCSD) have made tremendous efforts to improve the living situation of the poor and under-privileged, through initiatives such as housing and sanitation schemes, making it easier for families to take care of their children at home. This has made us to rethink our vision and focus on addressing the need for quality education through Vedike Global School.
Our vision for VEDIKE Global School is to provide quality education for more than 400 underprivileged and at risk children (girls and boys) from rural Bangalore especially from Chikballapur District. VEDIKE Global School (both pre-primary and primary) is approved and recognised by the Government of Karnataka. Pre-Primary School (Nursery, LKG and UKG) has been operational since June 2018 and we will be opening our Primary School (Standards/Grades 1-5) in June 2019.
Through the GCLC, we aim to provide vocational/livelihood training for the local community in rural Bangalore and programs for volunteers/students/interns to engage them on ongoing issues that the organisation currently works on related to education, housing, health, sanitation, and rural development in the villages surrounding VEDIKE.
VEDIKE heavily relies on donations/fundraising to provide for the children living on campus and to continue the construction our children’s home, school and vocational training facilities. (Please find the donation details below.)
VEDIKE hosts the GCSD WE BUILD program in July and November/December and the Global Citizens Teach in India program in August (and other times, depending on the needs of visiting volunteer groups). We also welcome individuals and groups to volunteer all throughout the year at our campus in rural Bangalore.
